About This Video

In this video I’m talking about the Meze 105 AER and Meze’s optional Boom Mic, and why this combo ended up being one of my favorite gaming setups I’ve used in a while. Meze is a company I’ve gained a lot of respect for over the years because they actually seem to take feedback seriously, and the 105 AER feels like a real “sweet spot” in their lineup—priced around $400 between the 99 Classics and the 109 Pro. Build and presentation are classic Meze: stainless steel and aluminum hardware, a luxe look and feel, and even a hard travel case. The standout for me is comfort. The deep velour pads and lighter feel (thanks to the plastic cups) made long sessions easy—no clamp fatigue, no hot spots. I was grinding Trackmania while testing these, and the open-back spaciousness plus comfort made it a joy for hours. Sound-wise, the 105 AER isn’t a neutral reference tuning. There’s a dip in the ear gain region, with extra low end and top end—basically a slightly colored, energetic listen that I especially loved for gaming. Bass hits with good sub/mid-bass presence without the older “bloat/mud” I’ve heard from some past Meze stuff, though a few tracks can get harsh for me (I noticed some peaks around ~5 kHz and ~12 kHz). Overall: not my main pick for music versus my darker preferences, but for gaming I’m genuinely going to miss them when they go back on tour.
