About This Video

In this video I review the Moondrop Rays, a $100 “professional gaming” IEM that honestly didn’t grab me at first—because the whole “gaming tuning will make you better” thing usually doesn’t. A lot of the time comfort and just enjoying the sound matters more than chasing some magic footstep curve. But the Rays does something I actually want to see more IEMs do: it uses a USB-C DSP cable where you can EQ the IEM and save the tuning directly to the cable. I go over the build and accessories (Moondrop’s usual zip case, plus a USB-C extension so you can reach your rear I/O), and then the real story: the browser-based EQ tool. You plug it in, open Moondrop’s online EQ, and you get esports presets, generic game presets, community profiles, and a full visual EQ. The big wins for me are that the cable fixes the annoying “static” issue I’ve complained about on older Moondrop DSP cables, and the EQ options are way more capable. Sound-wise, the default tuning is my favorite—it’s close to neutral for me, though still a bit more treble than I like (shocking, I know). I personally pull down around 6k a few dB and I’m good. The esports presets? I hate to say it, but I don’t like them—most boost midbass and treble until it starts sounding like cheap gaming headphones. Still, overall: positive recommendation, mostly because the DSP + easy customization is genuinely useful.
