About This Video

Oh right, I’m supposed to be reviewing headphones on this channel. In this video I’m finally back and digging into the Simgot EP5: a closed-back, over-ear set that lands just under $100 (and I’ve seen it dip lower on sale). They’re clearly built with gaming in mind—light clamp, thick soft pads, and a suspension strap that makes long sessions easy. I used them a ton for gaming, especially on portable stuff like my Steam Deck, and the build feels reassuring: lightweight overall, mostly metal structure, with plastic cups. Sound-wise, the EP5 is a V-shaped tuning, but not in an overbearing way. Compared side-by-side with the FiiO JT1 (similar “50mm driver, suspension strap, plastic cups” vibe), the EP5 feels a bit more filled-in through the mids, and I straight up prefer it. Graphs show a big bass shelf, but on my head it often leans brighter rather than bloated—though sometimes the bass does hit with a tactile punch. The tradeoff is that bass definition and treble quality aren’t top-tier, so clarity isn’t as strong as more neutral options. I also cover the optional boom mic cable (surprisingly decent, V-MODA BoomPro vibes) and the optional USB sound card with EQ modes and a “7.1” toggle. The EQ presets are usable, but I still like stock best. The 7.1 mode? It scoops mids, kills upper treble, and makes everything sound muffled and distant—so I’d ignore it.
