Back in Jan 2020, I had the chance to shoot a Lewis Capaldi concert here in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. I'm not an experienced concert photographer but I learnt a lot and got some really good images too! Surprisingly, I was the only photographer which was kinda strange but oh well. Entertainment biz I guess. About This Video

I was digging through my photo archive and found a set from January 2020 — a Lewis Capaldi concert in Kuala Lumpur. I’m not an experienced concert photographer (I’ll say that again), but I learnt a lot from this one and ended up with some images I’m genuinely proud of. In this video I break down what I was thinking shot-by-shot: dealing with the photo pit, ugly low angles, people blocking, and how I tried to make the frames feel like more than just “artist on stage”. I talk about the gear I brought (EOS R + 5D Mark IV, plus the 24mm f/1.4, 35mm f/1.4, and 70-200mm f/2.8) and why fast glass matters when the venue is dark. I also share small practical things like watching for good beams of light in haze, capturing fan reactions to build story, and being careful with heavy purple/blue lighting because Canon sensors can struggle even in RAW. And yes — I tell you exactly how I got the gig last minute through a friend, and how much I got paid: a grand total of zero ringgit, because sometimes I’ll take a free job to learn, build portfolio, and help someone out.
