About This Video

In this video I review the Portkeys PT6—an affordable, extremely lightweight 5.2-inch touchscreen monitor that’s honestly jam-packed with features. Portkeys positions it more as a live streaming tool, but I’ve been using it like a normal filmmaking monitor and it makes a lot of sense if you want something budget-friendly that still feels capable. Full disclosure: Portkeys sent it to me (they actually sent two), but they didn’t tell me what to say and they’re not previewing the video before it goes up. I go through what’s in the box (cables, sunshade, swivel mount, hard case), the specs (600 nits, 1080p panel, HDMI in up to 4K60 and out at 1080p60), and the physical layout—including the dual battery plate that takes Canon LP-E6 and Sony NP-F, which is super versatile. Feature-wise you get the usual stuff like focus peaking, false color, and waveforms, but the big highlight for me is being able to toggle LUT output over HDMI out during playback—huge for client review so you’re not wasting time explaining why the image looks flat. I also cover the stuff I don’t love: the sunshade is flimsy, the unit can get hot (no fan), and the HDMI in/out being on opposite sides makes cable management messy. Downsides aside, if you’re on a budget, I still think the PT6 is a solid option with a lot of return for the money.
