About This Video

In this video I unbox my “new” Leica M6 TTL in black — and more specifically, the 0.58x viewfinder version I’ve been hunting for for a long time. I traded in my silver M6 Classic (which I shot for about two-ish years) and finally got this TTL in really clean condition. I go through the original packaging, the vintage box look I genuinely love, and the little details like the strap (unused… but moldy as hell because it’s an early 2000s batch). Then I break down the practical differences between the M6 TTL vs M6 Classic: TTL flash metering, a bigger shutter speed dial that turns the “right” direction, an actual OFF position so you don’t burn through batteries as fast, and a slightly updated metering pattern. But the real point is the 0.58x finder. I shoot 28mm and 35mm a lot, and on 0.72x the 35mm framelines sit right at the edge — it’s hard to read. With 0.58x, I can finally see outside the frame, and that changes how I shoot on the street. After that, I get a bit reflective on why the M6 is still my favourite camera: it pulled me out of that “everything feels like work” phase, made personal shooting fun again, and honestly, it’s the camera that gets me out the door. It’s not perfect or practical — it’s passion — and that emotional connection is why it’s staying with me to the grave.
