In this quick tip I walk you through the simple, no-stress way I pack my scuba gear into a suitcase for a trip down south (or… you know… to my living room, because I’m not actually going anywhere). The big takeaway: any suitcase works. Dive-specific bag, random suitcase you’ve got floating around—grab it, open it up, and start building your “gear puzzle” from the big pieces first. I start by dropping my BCD right in the middle, then either tuck my regulator inside the BCD to keep it hugged in place, or move it to my carry-on depending on how I’m traveling. Fins go on the sides, and I use the fin pockets like bonus storage for boots, masks, lights, knives, and other little accessories. From there, I roll my wetsuit and either place it at the bottom to help with weight and balance (especially if your suitcase likes to tip over), or lay it over the top at the end to keep everything from shifting around. I also show how I “nest” small stuff inside boots, why your save-a-dive kit should go in checked luggage (sharp bits), and why anti-fog needs to be bagged up like it’s trying to ruin your whole trip.
