In this video I share a few simple, practical ways we can support our local dive shops during COVID-19 closures. This is uncharted territory for all of us, and a lot of shops are shutting their doors—either because they have to, or because there just isn’t enough traffic coming through. Since diving is such a community-based thing, I wanted to toss out ideas you can do from home that still make a real difference. First up: social media support that costs you nothing. I’m talking about liking and commenting on shop posts, sharing their content, and giving them a shout-out with photos or a little trip recap—then tagging the shop so they can share it too. Another easy win is leaving an honest review on Google or Facebook, especially if you’ve got a great story about how the staff helped you out over the years. If you’re able to spend a bit, consider getting your gear serviced now (call ahead and arrange a safe drop-off—yes, the “back alley scuba deal” moment). And if your shop has an online store, buying small replacement items or gear you were already planning to upgrade can help with cash flow. Most importantly, stay in touch—message, email, or call—because we’re all in this together.
