If you’re standing in a shop thinking “what suit do I buy?” this video is me walking you through the exact questions I use to narrow it down. The big one is simple: are you diving cold water (think Canada/UK—anything north of Florida in my head) or warm water (Caribbean, sunshine, sand, fish, corals)? Because there isn’t a magical suit that truly covers both extremes, and if you answer “yes” to both, you’re basically shopping for two suits. For cold water, I break down the 7–8mm wetsuit range, where it works great in peak season, and where it starts to hurt—especially on the surface when it’s windy and the air temp drops. From there we talk semi-dry (less water movement, more warmth) and why drysuits become a “when” question if you’re regularly in cold water. Personally, once I got into my White’s/Aqualung drysuit, I never went back—plus you can extend your whole season just by changing undergarments. For warm water, I go from rash guards (sun/skin protection) up through 1mm, 2.5–3mm rentals, and into 5mm for folks who shiver or are stacking lots of consecutive dives. And don’t forget: you can layer with hooded vests, and you lose heat fast through your head, hands, and feet.
