It’s April up here in Canada, which means the ice is melting and the local dive scene is about to kick off. So in this vlog I do something a little different from my usual quick scuba tips: I crack open the dive closet, pull everything out, and walk you through what’s actually in my dive bag for local cold-water diving. I show what I’m using, why I’m using it, what I love, and even the stuff that annoys me. I start with my ABCD setup—my Mares Protec BCD (that I’ve been running for about seven years) with a few mods to make it more minimalistic, plus my older Mares MR22 regulator setup and simple pressure gauge. From there I go through masks (my Hollis M4 and my Mares X-Vision Liquid Skin backup), snorkel, and my cold-water fin choice. Then it’s all about exposure protection: my Whites Fusion Sport drysuit (with an upgraded outer layer), hood, gloves (dry and wet), and my “off script” undergarment layering that keeps me comfortable. I also show the accessories I keep on me—my Mares Smart computer, compass (that’s been acting a little funny), safety sausage, and reel—plus the buoy, dive flag, weights, and the HP steel 100 tanks I use. Bottom line: it’s a full tour of how I pack and organize for Canadian local diving so I’m ready for the water.
