About This Video

Whoops—looks like we’ve got a tear. In this Quick Scuba Tip I walk you through a super simple way to fix small cuts, nicks, and tears in your wetsuit so you can get right back in the water and not miss a single dive. Most of the time, the culprit is our own sharp nails when we’re pulling the suit on and off—especially around the arms and legs—so having a fast repair method in your kit is a game changer. My go-to fix for small damage is neoprene contact cement (I’m using McNett Seal Cement). The whole idea is to glue both sides of the tear, wait a bit for it to get tacky, then press the edges together so they sit flush. I also show my little “less mess” trick: I put the glue on a plastic lid first (it can come out way too aggressively straight from the bottle), then transfer it with a trimmed Q-tip stick so I can work it into the nooks and crannies. Finish it off by putting cardboard under the area to avoid accidental glue-through, weigh it down with something heavy, and let it cure—about 24 hours for a full cure. Same principle works on hoods, gloves, and other neoprene items too.
