About This Video

In this Quick Scuba Tip, I’m showing you how I personally dry out my wetsuit boots and gloves so they dry faster and don’t end up smelling funny. I used to do the usual stuff—lay them in a sunny spot on a windowsill or out on the deck—but neoprene loves to fold onto itself, and then it feels like it takes forever to dry all the way through. I also tried hanging gloves on a regular hanger (even Velcro-ing them together), but they’d fall off and the airflow still wasn’t great. And boots on a hanger? Not really a thing unless you buy a specialty hanger—and not everyone wants to drop $10–$20 on that. So here’s my little “quick hack”: I use an old scuba tank mesh (the tubular mesh that protects tanks from scratches and dings) and a pair of scissors. I cut the mesh open along the seam, cut it into rectangles, then into four mesh squares. Each square gets rolled into a cone, and I slide it into the glove (right up to where the fingers meet) or into the boot (down into the toes). That cone holds the neoprene open so air can actually get in there—especially into the toe pocket—so everything dries quicker and stays way fresher. Super simple, super cheap, and it works.
