About This Video

In this video I took the GoPro 13 Black out for a real-world vlog test in Chicago—while it was literally 1° outside. I wanted to see how it handles travel vlogging in the cold, how stable it looks handheld (no gimbal), and what kind of image you can actually get out of the log profile once you bring it into post and start color grading. I’m a big Osmo Pocket 3 guy, but sometimes you want to go a little more “off the grid,” and that’s where a GoPro makes a ton of sense. During the day, I was honestly stunned by how flexible the log footage was to work with. After grading, the colors came back really nicely, and the stabilization looked great even with me just holding a mini tripod out in front of me. At night, I tested low light downtown where there’s a lot of ambient light, but I still don’t expect miracles from a small sensor—so for low light, I’m still sticking with my Pocket 3. My biggest tips: shoot in Linear mode so it doesn’t scream “GoPro,” and don’t sleep on slow motion for b-roll. Overall, I give the GoPro 13 a big thumbs up as a compact travel action cam, especially for daylight and adventure days like beach trips or skiing.
