Ciao — I’m in Rome with the DJI Action 5 Pro, and in this video I break down five reasons why I think the Action 5 Pro (or the newly released DJI Action 6) is basically the perfect travel camera. I’m testing it in real travel conditions: sunny days, rainy downpours, cobblestone streets, and lots of walking around iconic spots. The big thing for me is peace of mind. This camera is waterproof, tough, and it can get tossed around in a backpack without me stressing about it (especially with a SmallRig cage on it). I also talk about why I love shooting slow motion for travel B-roll. On this Rome trip I’ve been shooting 60fps a lot, and when you pair that with the long selfie stick you get with some combos, you can pull off super “drone-like” shots fast. Then I get into image quality (wide view, everything in focus—exactly what I want when I’m trying to show a place), plus stabilization that honestly looks gimbal-level while I’m walking. Finally, I cover affordability: it’s a lower-cost camera in the camera world, so I’m more willing to actually take it out and film. The main downside I call out is low light at night (the Colosseum gets dark), though I’ve heard the Action 6 improves that.
