About This Video

In this video I break down why I think the Canon RF 28mm pancake is Canon’s most underrated travel lens—and why it’s basically lived on my Canon R8 for the last 6 months. I’ve taken it to Paris, London, Rome, and even San Francisco, and it’s become my go-to everyday carry because it’s so small I genuinely use it like a lens cap. If you’re trying to keep your kit compact while still getting sharp photos and solid video, this lens makes a ton of sense. I talk through why 28mm is one of my favorite focal lengths for travel: it sits right between 24mm for landscapes and 35mm for environmental portraits, so it’s crazy versatile. I show how I use it for stitched panoramas when I need to go wider (Rome was a big one for that), and I also cover why it works so well for video—great autofocus, enough width to show your environment, and still a little separation. I also get into the price (around $300), the plasticky build, and why I still think it’s a no-brainer once you stop down to around f/4 and see how sharp it gets.
