About This Video

In this video I review the Genmitsu Kiosk Portable 10W laser (there’s also a 5W version, but I tested the 10W). Genmitsu asked me to carry out the review and give feedback, but everything I say is my own opinion. I show a quick unboxing and setup, and honestly it’s one of the easiest I’ve used: get it out the box, connect one cable to the laser, hook up power, and you’re basically away. I run it through LightBurn (I find the apps a bit limited), and the SD card is already in the machine with files you can use straight away. I put it through a bunch of real-world tests: 2mm plywood engraving, slate signage for my studio door, leather tags, wooden keyrings, and a coaster image. I go over the power and speed settings I used (for example, slate at around 4,200 speed and 80% power, and keyrings around 6,000–8,250 speed at 60–65% power). Cutting 3mm ply is possible, but it’s slow—around 200 speed at 100% power was the “sweet spot” in my tests, and you’ll get scorching without a honeycomb/airflow. My takeaway: for a small, portable unit (ideal for craft shows, small personalised items, and quick engraves), it’s really capable for the price. I love the lift-up lid with the proximity safety switch and the internal light, but I’d personally stick to engraving more than cutting, and I’d pick the 10W over the 5W every time.
