About This Video

I’m down at SMRFF 2026 in Manchester for one of the most fun bits of the whole event: the Death Racers from Sam Prentice. This is billed as the only death race in the UK, and it’s basically medieval jousting / Robot Wars vibes, but in proper 3D printed form. The goal is simple—knock the head off your opponent and be the last one standing. It’s loud, chaotic, and brilliant to watch in person. In the video I show how the Death Racer works: there’s a servo-driven boom on the back that swings left and right, and the “head” has a switch inside so when it gets disconnected it kills the robot. That makes every hit count, and you can see people getting warmed up, watching batteries, and trying not to smoke motors before the heats kick off. I also have a chat about where you can catch these at shows (including London dates) and the general community vibe—proper British audience energy, plenty of banter, and loads of makers having a good time.
