In this video I take you through the OMTech K40+ CO₂ laser cutter & engraver from the moment it comes out of the box, because I know a lot of you want to see what you actually get and what the initial setup looks like in the real world. I show the accessory pack (manual, USB, tools, keys, clamps, sealant), what’s inside the machine, and the bits you mustn’t miss—like the fact it ships locked in a few places and you need those keys to even power it on. I also compare it to my original K40 experience, because that was one of my first CO₂ lasers and I ended up modding it back then. The big upgrades that stood out straight away are the pre-installed honeycomb bed (massive for cutting), the adjustable laser head, built-in air assist, interlocks, emergency stop, and—finally—proper readouts like water temperature and laser current on the front panel. I walk you through setting up the water pump properly (distilled water, don’t run it dry, let the bubbles clear), connecting extraction (I also use OMTech’s filtration unit), and then getting it talking to LightBurn with the correct 300 x 200 bed size and rear-left homing. I finish with a quick test fire to align the red dot pointer, then an engraving/cut test—honestly, I didn’t expect this much power and it’s already ticking a lot of boxes for an entry-level CO₂ setup.
