In this video I’m finally trying the Top Down Curl Method (created by Katie from Type of Beautiful) on my fine, high-porosity, dense wavy hair. A subscriber asked me to film this literally three years ago, so… better late than never. The whole idea is to get that upside-down styling volume without the backache, by working in sections from the top and brushing upward as you style. I start on clean hair (As I Am Dry & Itchy shampoo + Noughty Wave Hello conditioner), then use Curly Secret Moisturising Protection Spray as my leave-in. I section my hair, add foam at the roots (yes, even though my scalp has been a bit itchy lately), put a little air-dry cream on the ends, brush up, scrunch, and then glaze + scrunch in gel. After styling, I towel-plop for 10–15 minutes and diffuse (roots first, then pixie diffuse) until fully dry. My first impression: obsessed. I got serious volume and super pretty definition, and the method gave me smaller, slightly stringier clumps that actually made my hair look fuller. I even had to “smaster” in a bit more gel mid-diffuse to help a cast form, but it ended up soft and easy to scrunch out—this might genuinely become a new favorite routine.
