In this video I finally tested Sierra Schultzzie’s super simple styling routine on my own hair, because I’ve had this idea forever and her updated 2022/2023 routines are basically the definition of “minimal products.” My hair is fine, high-porosity, dense, super tangle-prone, and honestly… a bit stubborn, so I was nervous going in with only a leave-in spray and a curl cream (no gel, no mousse, no foam). I also dusted off my Denman brush (I’m using the 7-row, and Sierra uses the 9-row) and tried her section-by-section application and twisting technique. After washing, I used a hair mask instead of my usual conditioner because that one can dry my hair out, and I wanted my hair as soft and detangled as possible for the Denman. I used a lightweight leave-in (with protein) and then the Rizos Curls defining cream, brushed it through, twisted, scrunched a little, added more water for better clumps, towel scrunched, and then diffused (because my hair does not like air drying—especially without hold products). My takeaway: drying time was quicker, but the definition just wasn’t there for me, and my waves fell out fast. It looked natural and not ugly, but for my long fine wavy hair, a cream alone feels like a waste unless I add a gel/mousse/foam for real hold.
