In this video I fully embraced chaos and mixed 34 different hair gels together to see if I could accidentally create “the perfect gel” for my fine, high-porosity, dense wavy hair. I want something lightweight but still defining, with good shrinkage (in a good way), volume, and most importantly: hold that lasts past wash day. I measured out tiny amounts into a tub, mixed it like a weird little bath-time potion, and immediately started panicking about the smell (one gel was super herbally and totally took over). For the rest of my routine I tried to keep things light: As I Am Dry & Itchy shampoo for my recently itchy/dandruff-prone scalp, Noughty Wave Hello conditioner (she’s thick, so I used the minimum), and Garnier Aloe Air Dry Cream as my leave-in because it melts into my hair. The DIY mega-gel formed a cast really fast and scrunched out surprisingly easily with a cocoa + E serum, but I did get more frizz than normal and a few wonky/uneven wave pieces on day one. The real test was day two, and honestly… it held better than I expected. It dropped quickly after scrunching, but it stayed soft, consistent, and fairly defined—so yes, it kind of worked… but no, I’m not mixing 34 gels again.
