In this wash day, I’m walking you through my go-to routine for soft, shiny, defined waves—and I’m finally doing a dedicated little review on Sumilayi because I realized I’ve never properly talked about the brand on YouTube. I originally found these products from a giveaway way back in my early Instagram days, and I used to love their shampoo (sadly I ran out ages ago). For this wash, I used my current go-to scalp shampoo (As I Am Dry & Itchy) because my scalp has been itchy with some dandruff/flakiness, and my hair was pretty greasy so it didn’t foam up amazing at first until I added more water and scrubbed again. Then I went in with the Sumilayi Ooh So Soft conditioner, and even though I forgot to dry detangle beforehand (oops… so many tangles), it still gave loads of slip and made detangling way easier than expected. I used a tiny bit of the Sumilayi leave-in (I prefer lightweight leave-ins, so I barely dent this one), then brush styled using horizontal sections (inspired by Sierra Schultzzie’s routine) to see if I’d get more definition/volume. For hold, I used the Sumilayi Frizz Control Gel (it has flaxseed—my hair loves flaxseed), diffused, and scrunched out the cast with a bit of their oil. Day one looked super shiny, healthy, defined, and frizz-free (especially from the back), but day two the definition dropped and I felt like I was getting greasy quickly. Overall: a really pretty, natural finish, but I don’t love this gel on its own for longevity.
