In this video I tried Manes by Mell’s new professional dry curly haircut tutorial (the one Mel and Amanda did) — but as a total beginner with wavy hair. I filmed this on December 22nd, aka “almost Christmas,” and I wanted a fresh trim for the holidays… even though I was super sleep deprived (coming off meds has been giving me insomnia, which is just so fun). My goal was to get a more rounded shape, because my hair is loose and wavy (definitely not as curly or as thick as Amanda’s), but I’ve been loving how my layers have been falling since my Sabrina Carpenter-style cut. I walk you through how I sectioned the top, worked at that 45° angle, and tried to “cut the corners” without going totally scissor-happy (spoiler: I did get a little layer-happy at one point). The hardest part for me was keeping both sides even — it’s genuinely so hard to match angles, especially with long hair and short arms. After the cut, I washed and styled wavy, scrunched out the cast with the TRESemmé Keratin Smooth serum, and honestly… the definition and shine were gorgeous. First wash day, I really loved the shape, and it took me about 45 minutes — my only big question is how it’ll look when I wear it straight or do heatless curls.
