I kept seeing hair glossing all over my TikTok FYP, so I finally put the L’Oreal Glycolic Gloss to the test on my own hair: long, fine, wavy, high-porosity (I’m pretty sure), tangles easily, and gets oily fast. I filmed this on a very real Sunday wash day (with a messed up shoulder, so I was not in the mood to be bent over forever), and I started from hair that I’d washed on Thursday and worn straight. I used my drugstore wash day products first, then followed the gloss instructions and applied it to damp hair for 5 minutes. In the shower, I honestly didn’t feel a huge difference right away, and at one point my hair even felt a bit waxy (thankfully that went away once it dried). After blow drying, I could see a little more light reflecting off my hair when I moved it—nice, because my straight hair can look really dull—but I wasn’t “wowed.” My hair didn’t feel oily immediately, but it also didn’t feel as soft as I expected, and tangles were already forming. I finished by running my straightening brush through and adding a serum, which made my ends feel way better. I also checked in over the next few days: by the following day my hair looked shinier, but my roots started looking a bit greasy, and by day three I definitely needed dry shampoo. Overall, I don’t really see the hype (at least on my hair), but I do think it gave a small shine boost.
