I felt like it’d been a while since I wore my hair properly wavy, so I did a full wavy wash day and tested the Eco Styler Argan Oil Gel on my fine, very long wavy hair. It claims “max hold 10” and that it’s water-based (my hair usually loves water-based products), but based on my past experience with Eco gels, I don’t really feel like they perform like a true level-10 hold—especially on longer hair. This one also has protein pretty high up in the ingredients (third), which had me excited because I really liked the Eco Styler Protein Gel. For the routine, I used the Pretty Curly Girl co-wash (the tingle is relaxing… but not when it’s cold), then Noughty Wave Hello conditioner to detangle, and finished with a little Florical leave-in and Coco Hair Elixir before brush styling. With Eco gels I’ve learned I have to apply generously to get any cast, so I went in heavy, scrunched, then towel-scrunched to remove excess product and speed up diffusing. After diffusing, I got decent definition but only a very light cast, and my clumps broke up a lot—some pieces looked straight and flat. It looked “natural” (like I wasn’t wearing gel), which some people will love, but it just didn’t give me what I want for hold and definition. Right now, the protein one is still my favorite.
