In this video I put the Donner DST-152 Strat kit through its paces and, honestly, I’m a bit shocked (in a good way). Straight out of the box it plays really, really well—no dead frets, no sharp fret ends, and the neck feels lovely. It’s a satin-finished Canadian maple C-shape neck, quite slim, and the finish on mine was near perfect. It shipped with 9s (a bit light for me), but it still does all the “Strat things”: proper neck pickup sparkle, that quacky 4th position, and the classic 2nd position “Sultans of Swing” vibe. The big talking point is value. Here in Australia it’s around the $400–$450 mark and it’s an all-in-one kit: padded gig bag, lead, extra strings, clip-on tuner, picks, and a surprisingly fun little rechargeable mini amp/Bluetooth speaker with clean/drive and a headphone out. The guitar itself is HSS with a coil-tappable humbucker, so I can flip between humbucker punch and more single-coil-style tones. Even after a big whammy dive, it held tune way better than I expect from a budget-friendly guitar. If a student asked me what to buy, I’d point them at this kit without hesitation.
