Good day you rotten lot — in this one I’m doing something a bit different: no pedals, no amps deep-dive… we’re fixing the thing that’s been driving me insane for about 20 years. This is my 1979 Greco Les Paul (made in Japan), and even though it sounds absolutely beautiful straight into a green Marshall, it’s had massive tuning problems forever. Plastic saddles, average old machine heads… I’ve loved playing it and hated playing it at the same time. Guyker sent me a roller bridge and a set of locking machine heads to sort it out, and I walk you through what I did: turning my pedalboard stand into a little workbench, pulling the old strings, swapping the bridge (which, thank god, slotted straight onto the existing posts), and then fitting the tuners. The tuners fit through fine, but I did have to drill new guide holes because the old ’70s Japanese spacing isn’t exactly perfect — and I’m fine with that because this is about playability, not keeping it “original.” I did end up taking it to Josh at AMP Music to get the bridge oriented correctly (yep, I had it on back-to-front), set up, and intonated, with new adjustable posts installed. End result: it’s finally staying in tune right up the neck, and it feels like I’ve got my guitar back — so you’ll probably see this Les Paul a lot more on the channel.
