About This Video

In this video I’m checking out the Donner x MIYAVI Double Sword—Donner sent it over for us to have a proper play with, and honestly this little box is an absolute weapon. It’s a compact multi-effect that covers chorus, delay, and reverb, and I ran it with my Yamaha into the Marshall Astoria so you can hear exactly how it sits with a nice clean amp behind it. The reverb is lush and beautiful when you keep it tame, but as you start turning it up you’ll hear that extra grit, dirt, and a bit of artifacting in the tails—which I actually really like. The tone knob is super usable too; you can pull all the top end out to get the reverb out of your way, or bring it back for more sparkle. The delay can do a clean slapback, but it’ll also get properly grotty as you ring it out, kind of like an old bucket brigade vibe—because it’s mixing analog and digital circuits. Then there’s the chorus: you can run it fast/low depth or slow/high depth (no right or wrong), and I ended up preferring high depth with low rate. The sneaky trick is the “bonus” boost—turn rate and depth all the way down and the chorus side has a phenomenal amount of output gain, so you can use it as a boost alongside your delay and reverb. I also hit it with my Past Effects OG-1 out front to see how it behaves with dirt, and it turns into a bit of an ambient machine.
