About This Video

In this video I put the Viltrox 15mm f/1.7 head-to-head with the Sirui 16mm f/1.2 to see which wide-angle APS-C lens actually makes more sense for real shooters. Quick note up front: both Viltrox and Sirui sent these lenses to me for evaluation, but as always, all opinions are my own. I break down the basics first—15mm vs 16mm, f/1.7 vs f/1.2, and a big difference in weight and price (about 190g and $239 for the Viltrox vs 384g and $399 for the Sirui, roughly $320 on sale). Then I get into the stuff that matters: build, handling, and image tests. The Sirui has better build (carbon fiber), a super smooth focus ring, and slightly less vignetting. But the Viltrox surprised me—wide open it’s sharper in a lot of the frame, and it also handled harsh highlight situations better in my test (more detail on the aluminum roof while shooting toward the sun). Autofocus was more or less the same in my indoor late-afternoon test, though the Sirui’s f/1.2 can help by feeding the sensor more light. At the end of the day, I see these as two lenses for two different shooters: if you’re more photo-first and want compact, sharp, and affordable, the Viltrox is a killer deal. If you’re more video-focused and want that smoother focus ring plus f/1.2 blur and low-light help, I’d push you toward the Sirui.
