About This Video

In this video I put the Sirui 35mm f/1.4 head-to-head with the Nikon 35mm f/1.4 and I run them through the stuff I actually care about: build, features, weather sealing, autofocus noise, and real image-quality tests. Sirui sent the lens over for evaluation, and the Nikon is brand new from B&H—either way, all opinions are my own. I also break down pricing (Sirui $550 vs Nikon $680 retail, with Nikon currently on sale) and what you actually get in the box, because the unboxing experience is night-and-day. Performance-wise, I look at compression, flare character, bokeh balls (not really my thing, but I show it), vignetting (Sirui has more), chromatic aberration (Nikon’s CA at f/1.4 was way too much for me until about f/4), distortion (Nikon has more), and sharpness across the frame. Sharpness is mixed: Nikon can look sharper in some corners wide open, but Sirui is sharper in the center and even renders more background detail in certain scenes due to lens curvature. For autofocus, I tested on Nikon ZR and Z6III in good light and low light, swapped lenses, and honestly it’s a tie between the lenses—body performance mattered more, and the ZR felt a tad slower and probably needs firmware. My takeaway: Nikon is compact and has better minimum focus, but Sirui gives you way more features, better sealing, quieter AF, and stronger value for the money.
