About This Video

In this video I’m putting the Sirui 16mm f/1.2 up against the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 to figure out what’s actually the best 16mm APS-C lens right now—especially if you’re on Nikon Z. I break down price first (Sigma is about $500 for Z-mount, Sirui was $320 on sale / $400 retail), then I go through the specs that actually matter: aperture, blade count (13 vs 9), optical design, weight, weather sealing (Sigma has it, Sirui doesn’t), and even how you update firmware (Sirui gives you USB‑C right on the lens). After that it’s straight into my image-quality tests: bokeh balls, distortion, background blur, vignetting, flare character, chromatic aberration, autofocus (good light and low light), plus a landscape sharpness breakdown (left/right/center/foreground). The big takeaways: Sigma shows major distortion and relies heavily on software correction, and I’m seeing noticeable chromatic aberration on the Sigma until around f/4. The Sirui controls distortion way better, has cleaner CA thanks to its ED elements, and in low light I’m getting more eye AF behavior versus Sigma’s box tracking. My conclusion is simple: the Sigma feels out of date (it’s 2017 tech), and unless you’re paying extra mainly for weather resistance, warranty, and slightly better vignetting, I’d rather grab the Sirui—especially if you care about lens hardware correction for future video workflows.
