What’s up everybody — for this one I had to take off my musician hat and put on my content creator hat. I’ve been recording in a bunch of different places lately (phones, cameras, computer), and my audio setup was kind of all over the place. So I went looking for a wireless mic kit that would work on my phone and my camera, and I landed on the Maono Wave T5. I’ve worked with Maono before, I reached out, they sent it out, and it’s basically the kit I asked for. In the video I walk through how I’m using it and why it checks my boxes: it’s wireless, the camera receiver mounts right on the cold shoe, and it includes different receivers so I can plug straight into USB-C phones (I’m on Samsung Galaxy) or Lightning if that’s what you use. The phone receivers pull power from the phone, the camera receiver charges in the case, and the case has its own battery so I can charge on the go. Sound-wise, I like it — in post I’ll usually boost a little high-mids and maybe cut some lows depending on the situation, and I do notice it’s a bit more compressed than big podcast mics or a shotgun mic. Overall though, it’s super convenient, it’s been in like 30 videos already, and it’s one less thing I have to set up to get solid audio anywhere.
