I’ll probably never get the opportunity to sit in a room with an actual Dumble Overdrive Special, crank the gain to 10, crank the volume to 10, and not bother anybody. So in this video I checked out what’s basically the next best thing: the IK Multimedia ToneX Double Special Signature Tone Model Collection. It’s a brand new Signature series for the ToneX ecosystem with 40 tone models based on ultra-rare Dumble Overdrive Specials, ranging from super clean all the way to aggressive crunch—and you can even push some of these into fuzz/buzz territory if you lean into it. I ran ToneX inside Reaper (but these models work across the whole ToneX ecosystem: plugin, ToneX Pedal, ToneX ONE, etc.) and I demo’d a mix of profiles on both single coils and humbuckers. The big takeaway for me is how good the pick dynamics feel on the edge-of-breakup stuff—lighter picking stays cleaner, and it breaks up naturally when you dig in. I also show the “layers” of this release: there’s the 40-model collection, plus a limited edition ToneX ONE Double Special pedal (1,000 made) that includes 20 additional exclusive tone models you can use after you register it.
