About This Video

I’m finally (yes, late) back with my review of the I\O Audio Sogno—shoutout to Shenzhen Audio for sending it in and being patient while it sat on my desk for a few months. The Sogno is I\O’s cheaper follow-up to the Vol, dropping the price from $600 to $400 with a 2DD + 6BA hybrid setup. It’s not a straight copy though: the tuning is different, and in a couple ways I actually prefer the Sogno. A big part of I\O’s whole thing is “the experience,” and the Sogno still leans hard into that. You get the same watch-style display case (cool, but huge), a full spread of ear tips (crucial for fit), and this time the tips are stored in their own little cases—which I like way more for actual long-term storage. The cable keeps the swappable plug idea but cuts bulk, and I’ll take lighter and more flexible over “impressive but chunky” every time. Sound-wise, the Sogno surprised me. It measures closer to a Harman-ish target, yet it was easier on my ears than the warmer, more V-shaped Vol at louder volumes—Vol can get a bit sibilant/peaky for me. Sogno comes off clean and above average, with snappier bass, but it can also feel a bit bland and intimate compared to Vol’s perceived width. Purely on sound, I’d still personally lean cheaper (Dusk, or my EM6L), but as a luxury-style complete package, Sogno is a solid step for I\O to reach more people.
