Super simple, straightforward minimal rig for the Canon EOS R3. I hate bulky rigs for mirrorless cameras so this fits just perfectly. Thanks Smallrig for sending these parts over! About This Video

In this video I’m rigging out my Canon EOS R3 with a super simple SmallRig build, because I genuinely hate bulky rigs on mirrorless cameras. I know it sounds ironic calling the R3 “small”, but for me it’s still a mirrorless body that’s meant to be nimble—run-and-gun, smaller productions, quick changes on set. My whole philosophy is minimalism: if you bought a compact camera, why turn it into a massive ass setup that defeats the point? I walk through the core pieces: the SmallRig EOS R3 cage (the only cage I know of for the R3), then a top handle (SmallRig Black Mamba) because ergonomics matter and I want multiple holding positions without adding weight. After that, I add my favourite style of side handle—the rotating NATO handle—because I can adjust it 360 degrees for low angles, high angles, and long handheld takes without wrecking my wrist. The big upgrade is the SmallRig HawkLock quick release system on a mini magic arm. I can swap between my Atomos Shinobi monitor and the Portkeys EVF fast, without screwing things in and out while a producer is rushing you. Downsides? This setup is front-heavy (especially with lenses), and I still avoid V-mount batteries because it adds unnecessary bulk—but the speed and flexibility is worth the trade-off for the kind of jobs I use this rig for.
