In this video I’m breaking down the Kondor Blue base cage setup for the Canon C70, and I’m basically answering one question: should you pick this up if you’re trying to keep the C70 small and lightweight? I’ve been using this cage for quite a while, and I love when something looks good but is also genuinely functional—this one mostly nails that. Kondor Blue did send it for me to try, but they didn’t ask me to say anything specific, so this is just my honest take. I go through the cage as separate parts: the bottom plate, top plate, side plate, and their universal top handle. My favorite thing overall is the compact “open” design—on the C70 the buttons are small, and a flush unibody cage can make them annoying to press, so having that open section helps a lot. The bottom plate fixes the C70’s mounting situation by giving you more options and aligning tripod mounting in a better way, plus a solid HDMI clamp (with one big caveat). The top plate has some really smart touches like the bubble level, NATO rails, cold shoes, and compatibility with Canon’s proprietary top handle grooves. I also talk about what I’d improve: fixed HDMI clamp sizing, the mic holder being a pain for bagging, and the top handle grip being a bit too thin—even though the record button on the handle is a huge win for me.
