I get this comment all the time on my E‑Ink reviews: “Just get a tablet.” As if that one sentence should make every reMarkable, Kindle Scribe, or other E‑Ink user ditch what they’ve bought and run straight to an iPad. So in this video I explain why that comparison is missing the point. E‑Ink and LCD/OLED tablets are built for different jobs, and pretending they’re interchangeable misunderstands both categories. For me, the whole point of E‑Ink is focus. It’s quiet tech—purposeful tech—designed to do one or two things exceedingly well: reading and writing. No glare, more paper-like comfort for your eyes, and battery that can go for days (often weeks) so you can genuinely forget where the charger is. Yes, tablets are brilliant: fast, colourful, app-heavy Swiss Army knives. I use my iPad Pro every day—I wrote the script on it, filmed on my iPhone, and edited on the iPad. But power doesn’t automatically make a tablet the best choice for everything, especially if what you want is long-form reading, slow thinking, and distraction-free handwritten notes.
