Quick question: is it better to read on the Kindle app (on a phone/tablet) or on an actual Kindle? In this video I put them side by side—my Kindle Colorsoft versus my iPad mini—and went through the stuff that actually changes your day-to-day reading: colour, speed, fonts, page layout options, and the overall feel of reading on LCD versus E Ink. Unsurprisingly, the iPad wins for colour “pop” and smoothness, especially with comics, because E Ink has to refresh to avoid ghosting. But I also show why that slower, more “book-like” look is exactly what some people (including me) prefer for long reading sessions. I also dig into the feature differences that might catch you out if you switch. On the app you get continuous scrolling (which you simply can’t have on E Ink without it looking shocking), plus a reading ruler that can help you focus line-by-line while you scroll. On the Kindle side, you’re in that distraction-free zone—no constant temptation to bounce to social media—and you get the practical perks like waterproofing (yes, I read in the bath… a lot). My verdict: I still prefer a Kindle for proper, long-form reading, but for comics and full-colour content, the app on a tablet makes a very strong case.
