Well, you took your time, Amazon. The Kindle Scribe Colorsoft is finally available in the UK, so in this video I unbox it, set it up, and give you my genuine first impressions—mainly around the headline feature: colour. I went for the “fig” (which I keep wanting to call plum) 64GB model, and I immediately focused on what matters on a colour E Ink device: how the colours actually look in real use, how bright you can push the front light, and whether it feels like a meaningful upgrade over the grayscale Scribe. I test the pen tools and colours in notebooks (pen, pencil with pressure variation, shaders, highlighter), and I’m properly impressed—these colours “pop as much as they can” on an E Ink screen, and crucially I can get the display as bright as I want (which is something that annoys me on the reMarkable). I also compare the new rounded premium pen to my older Scribe pen and point out the design change: the groove has moved from the pen to the device side. Then I quickly look at colour book covers and a comic, talk about the expected resolution trade-off (colour layering dropping effective sharpness), and I show the new “Connections” feature for Google Drive/OneDrive. Finally, I unbox Amazon’s premium leather folio case—lovely, strong magnets, a single viewing/writing angle—but yes, it’s expensive. My bottom line: I love it, but at around £750 with the case, it’s absolutely a luxury item unless you’re really into this stuff.
