In this video I take a proper look at the Orico M.2 Magnetic Docking Station — basically a MagSafe-style USB‑C hub with a secret weapon: you can stick an M.2 SSD inside it. That’s a genuinely clever solution if you’re shooting ProRes on an iPhone (because those files are massive and the native Camera app needs external storage), but I’m also looking at it through my usual lens: does it make a tidy, practical hub for iPad use? I unbox it, show you what you actually get (including the short cable, thermal pads and even a little screwdriver), then compare it to my trusty Hagibis magnetic hub that I’ve been using on my iPad. Port-wise it’s the usual “all the things”: 10Gbps USB, 100W Power Delivery, 4K 60Hz HDMI, SD/TF, audio — but the Orico is thinner, slightly smaller, and that built-in SSD slot makes it a much neater all-in-one setup. I also do a real-world transfer test on iPad: a ~17GB file copied to the internal SSD in about 20 seconds, and it was about the same speed copying back. One key iPad takeaway though: you still can’t initialize/format a fresh SSD in iPadOS, so you’ll need a Mac or PC first. Overall, I’m pretty impressed — and yes, I still need your help naming the drive after a sci‑fi spaceship.
