About This Video

I just finished Happy Place by Emily Henry, and it’s safe to say this is my favorite Emily Henry book so far. In this review, I talk through the setup with Wyn and Harriet—this seemingly perfect couple who’ve been together since college… except they actually broke up five months ago and haven’t told anyone. They still have this tight mutual friend group, and they’re heading to one last trip at a cottage in Maine that’s being sold, so they decide to “fake the funk” and pretend they’re still together to keep the trip (and the friendships) from imploding. What really worked for me is that they already know each other and have real history—so the chemistry, the banter, and all the little layered moments hit so much harder. I went in expecting a perfect summer read, and then about halfway through I realized it was going to be way deeper and more emotional than that. In true Emily Henry fashion, the characters are complex and the relationship dynamics are genuinely interesting and relatable. I finished this one feeling weirdly appreciative of love, friendships, family dynamics, and just life in general—and I’m still thinking about the quotes and themes. It’s absolutely a 4.5 for me at least, and it might be a full five-star.
