About This Video

In this video I’m working on my 2020-2024 Toyota Highlander and doing a step-by-step install of the Cartrimhome LED rear hatch door light replacement kit. We use our Highlander a lot for traveling—especially at night—and we’re constantly loading stuff, hitting rest stops, and letting the dogs out. The factory lighting back there just isn’t enough, so this mod is all about getting a solid, bright lighted area behind the car and in the trunk when the hatch is open. I walk you through popping the rear hatch panel off (there’s a pry spot on the passenger side), plugging into the factory connectors with the included piggyback harness (no splicing), and routing everything cleanly with zip ties along the factory harness. I also show you where to run the wires so you don’t pinch anything where the push pins clip back in. Once the lights are in, you get a touch button to turn them on/off, and they can be left in auto mode so they turn off when the hatch shuts and come back on when you open it. At the end, I show you how to re-set your liftgate height (hold the button for 2 seconds until it beeps) since we unplugged the hatch computer during the install. With the garage lights off, you can really see how bright these are—I’d call it a huge improvement and an easy plug-and-play upgrade.
