About This Video

In this video I review the FIIO K13 R2R, a desktop DAC/amp combo that sits around $320 and honestly might be the newest bang-for-bucks pick. I go through the unboxing, what you get in the box (remote, 1/4" adapter, short USB cable, and an even shorter power cable), and the overall build. Build is decent and the unit looks really cool, but my only real nitpick is a slight wiggle on the power slot on my sample—if FIIO fixes that, I’d basically have zero cons here. Feature-wise it’s stacked for the price: NOS (non-oversampling) and OS (oversampling) modes, Bluetooth, EQ, tons of I/O (USB, optical, coax, balanced line out), and it can run AC or DC power. Sound is the main story: NOS is highly musical and slightly warm, while OS brings more sparkle and detail. Bass is tight, punchy, and controlled, mids have that warmer “saturation” vibe (as a mixing/mastering guy, I notice that immediately), and treble stays smooth while extending more in OS. Technically it’s kind of ridiculous for $320—wide and layered staging, strong imaging, great separation, and very solid detail retrieval (especially OS). I even compare it to the K9 AKM and I’d still pick the K13 R2R easily—instant yes from me.
