In this video I review the DUNU DN242, basically the big brother to the DN142, and yeah—this is one of those IEMs that makes you go “wait, why does this sound like portable studio monitors?” Huge thanks to HiFiGO for sending it in, but as always this is 100% my own opinion. I go through the unboxing, accessories (there’s a lot), the very solid DUNU case, and the build/comfort. The shells are medical-grade resin, super well built, and very comfy, but I still think the red colorway can look a bit “chy” for people who don’t want loud colors. Cable is high quality and modular with a locking mechanism, and you get both 3.5mm and 4.4mm terminations. Sound-wise, my first impression was the tonality is kinda “meh” if you expect a super fun tuning—but then the technicalities hit you. The imaging is literally so good, stage is huge, layering is hyper realistic, and it’s holographic even off potato sources. Bass has less quantity than you might expect, but the quality is crazy: impact, weight, definition. Mids are timbre-correct and vocals sound hyper realistic, treble is super extended and hyper detailed (pure gold). For $334, it trades blows with higher classes and honestly I’d recommend it easily if you can afford it.
