About This Video

In this video I take a closer look at the MOONDROP Old Fashioned and compare it directly with two classics in this price range: the Koss KSC75 (including my modded setup) and the Koss KPH40 Utility. I go over what you get in the box, the overall design and build, and why the Old Fashioned is clearly aiming for that retro on-ear, semi-open vibe—light clamping force, slim foam pads, mostly plastic with a metal headband core. I also talk about the detachable cable, which is a great feature at this price, but with an important caveat: it uses 0.78mm 2-pin, and many aftermarket cables with ear guides simply won’t work. Then I get into subjective sound impressions. I expected something bass-light and bright, but what I actually heard was a very bright-leaning tuning with weak, anemic bass, recessed lower mids, upper mids that can dominate in an odd way, and a narrower, more focused stage. Even after hours of listening, it still came across thin and not very engaging for me. Compared to it, both the KSC75 and KPH40 sound more open and natural in the midrange, and the KSC75 surprised me by having more bass, punch, and control. My conclusion: great comfort and features for $25, but tuning-wise it’s not my cup of tea—personally, I’m sticking with my modded KSC75.
