About This Video

In this video I review the Koss KSC75 (and the Drop KSC75x) and explain why this little clip-on has been a “legendary” budget pick since Koss introduced it back in 2005. I go through the unboxing, design, and comfort, and I also clarify the real-world differences between the standard KSC75 and the KSC75x: mainly the color, the cable (the Drop one is thinner and more flexible), and the inline mic. Sound-wise, with the current revisions there’s no difference, and that’s important because you can choose based on usability and looks. For sound, I describe the KSC75 as midrange-focused with smooth treble and a rolled-off bass. The bass is fast and surprisingly punchy/ textured, but it’s not for bassheads—these shine with vocals. The mids are natural and organic (think HD600-like tonality with a bit more energy but less resolution), and the treble isn’t super sparkly, yet it balances the tuning well. Detail and separation are average, but the soundstage is surprisingly wide, and the overall presentation is forgiving with poor recordings. Then I show my simple mod that turns the KSC75 into an easier daily driver: swap to a headband (I used a cheap Parts Express set just for the band) and add Yaxi Porta Pro pads. The result is better fit, better comfort, and a slightly smoother, more relaxed tonality with a bit more tangible bass and slightly wider treble.
