About This Video

In this video I review the iFi Uno desktop DAC and headphone amp, and I go through everything you need to know before buying it: unboxing, build, specs, functionality, and real-world pairings. Uno is tiny (88×81×26 mm, 92 g), made of matte plastic reinforced with brushed aluminum side plates, and it keeps the front panel simple: EQ button, PowerMatch (gain) button, smooth volume knob with a format LED behind it, and a 3.5 mm single-ended headphone out with iFi’s S-Balanced tech to reduce crosstalk. On the back you also get RCA line out, and on top there’s USB-C. On the technical side it’s based on the ESS ES9219MQ/Q chip with PCM up to 384 kHz/32-bit, DSD256 and MQA support. Setup is genuinely plug-and-play on my Windows 10 desktop PC and my MacBook Air, and I tested with FLAC/DSD (Roon) plus Apple Music and TIDAL. PowerMatch is the “game switch” here: low gain for IEMs, high gain for full-size headphones, and I didn’t hear distortion or noise even with sensitive IEMs. Sound-wise, I’d call Uno musical and warm. It drives most headphones in the 16–150 Ω range easily, and it can work up to around 250 Ω (with exceptions), but with 250–300 Ω cans you may run low on headroom depending on your listening level and the recording. My only nitpicks: I’d prefer a fully metal volume knob, and I wish the RCA line out muted automatically when you plug in headphones.
