About This Video

In this video I unbox the Canon EOS M50 Mark II and show you exactly what you get in the box—kit lens, battery, charger, straps, manuals—and then I set it up the way I actually run cameras for YouTube. I walk through the buttons and ports (HDMI/USB, mic input), the flip-out articulating screen, and the SD/battery door on the bottom. I also install the SmallRig cage because I’m hard on gear and I like having more mounting options for lights and mics, plus a bigger grip when I’m walking around the property. After using the M50 for a few weeks and then a couple months, I come back with real-world feedback. The big win for me is autofocus—coming from the Canon G7X Mark III, the M50 is far superior and just way less frustrating. I also recommend grabbing extra batteries (I’m seeing about 2–3 hours per battery), filming in manual mode so you can control ISO and the look, and changing a couple settings that annoyed me—like remapping a button so record is easier to hit, and turning off the eyepiece sensor that keeps darkening the screen. With the Rode VideoMicro II on top, wind handling has been great, and overall I’m very happy with this upgrade.
