About This Video

Hey, I’m Tizo, and in this R&B guitar lesson I’m breaking down “Is This Real Love” by Debbie & Lucky Daye in two playable ways. The most accurate version I found uses a capo on fret 1, but I also walk you through a no-capo option if you don’t have one. Either way, we’re in the key of B♭ major, and I keep it focused on the exact chord shapes and picking patterns that give the progression that smooth, expressive R&B feel. For the capo version, I show you the five main shapes: C minor 7, E♭6 add9, G minor 11, F major, and F add9. Then I slow down the picking so you can hear how I’m moving string-by-string, when I’m skipping strings, and when I’m plucking the top strings together to get that soft “singer” kind of phrasing. The second pass through the progression is almost identical—except you land on F add9 instead of F. After that, I switch to the capo-free version with a couple chord modifications (including an E♭69 shape up around frets 5–6, and a G minor 11 where you avoid the high E string). Take your time with the changes, play it slow, and let it come together—every time you pick up the guitar, you’re getting better.
