About This Video

In this condensed Q&A livestream, I’m basically hopping back on YouTube for a quick check-in and to answer the questions I keep seeing in the comments. I’ve been super focused on my Patreon lately—doing contemporary R&B tabs, my “weekly practice” series, exercises, advice, and some licks/solo stuff—but I still want to keep helping my YouTube people too. So I ran through a handful of the biggest beginner/intermediate sticking points: chord transitions, chord embellishments, tuning, strings, practice routines, rhythm, theory, and bar chords. For chord transitions, I break progressions into groups of two and drill the exact change with a metronome for 3–5 minutes until it feels natural—boring, but it works. I also explain where R&B embellishments come from (notes in the key: major scale, natural minor, and especially pentatonic “boxes”), and why your ear is the real test for tuning. On practice, I talk about focused practice vs. just playing, and why you have to apply what you learn or you’ll forget it. I also share practical fixes for strumming in time (slow YouTube playback) and bar chords (bar-first vs. fingers-first, plus using the guitar body as leverage).
